Description
Here is a fine instrument looking for a loving home. Up for auction is my Venus traditional semi grand harp. This instrument is around 27 years old (NO-903). It has a mellow, sweet, full, beautiful sound. I listened to many harps and I really like the sound of this one a lot. A well-seasoned instrument, it is rich and warm with plenty of depth and color. When I play it, my house is filled with gentle happy golden energy and yet this harp also carries well in a hall. Not like the loud immature sound of a new harp, this soundboard has definitely reached its full potential. The Venus Traditional harp is beautiful to behold, I believe that this model has reached the perfect balance of ornate without being overdone. With its extended belly, fine and intricate woodcarvings and a tasteful floral decal. This harp is at once elegant, spectacular, graceful and commanding,. With such pleasing sound and beauty this harp is delightful to play and own. Its pedal mechanics are working perfectly smooth, as checked by the Venus company. Another exceptional quality for a 46-string harp, is that it holds its tune for about a week between tunings, this definitely beats having to tune it every day. When I bought it (1.5 years ago) I had the original owner bring it to the Venus company in Chicago, where it was checked over by the owner (e-mails proof available). They found it solid and structurally sound (no repairs were preformed nor warranties were given by Venus). They also noticed that the neck had been replaced by a third party (non Venus) with a very solid and well made neck. 10 months ago I put on brand-new concert gut strings (around $550), and have hardly played the harp since; I’ve been mainly out of the country. I am now moving to Bali and though my heart aches at the thought of selling my favorite instrument, shipping it there would not be safe due to transport and humidity, and I don’t believe in hording. Besides being structurally perfect, there are some optical damages due to age and use. I will describe them as best I can, plus I have included a couple of pictures taken in a light intended to bring out the details even stronger than your eye will notice them. - The varnish has fine crackle lines. This is normal for older instruments. - The feet and base panels have scratches and dings as well as some worn finish, again nothing affecting the sound or structure. - The soundboard has one ding in the veneer, and a few little impacts and scratches in the varnish, nothing going into the actual tonewood or affecting the sound. - On the top of the neck the veneer has one bubble in it. They put a final layer of veneer on top of the neck to hide the plywood grain. This is less then 1 inch and has no effect on the harp, it can only been seen if you are looking at the top of the neck. To sum it up there is some wear on the finish but nothing, which can’t be fixed, and definitely nothing affecting the sound. I will include in this sale an original W&W harp protector cover, and a huge wooden trunk for shipping. The trunk is old and has some bangs to it, but it is very solid. I bought it and had it fit by the Venus company custom adjusted for this particular harp. If you are looking for an excellent pedal harp and you don’t mind a few optical imperfections here is your chance to get one for a good price. I will assist with the packing and shipping. The one and only harp transport company will send it. Insurance is mandatory. Depending on where you live the shipping will be around $450-800. If you have any concerns, I can hook you up with a Lyon&Healy tech person who lives 2.5 hours from my home, she can inspect it at your cost. Good luck bidding and please feel free to contact me with any questions. If you like to talk to me please e-mail your telephone number and I will return you call. Please only make a best offer, if you are prepared to buy the harp, i case your offer gets accepted... Thanks!
