Olds Super cornet is one of the very finest cornets I've carried.  WOW, what a voice.  I am lucky this week to offer two outstanding instruments, this one, and the 19th Century French D cornet / flugelhorn.  This cornet has an ease of play that is uncommon, with a delicate, facile behavior from the bottom of its range, to well above the staff.  Everything is in tune, and slotting very well.  This instrument is notably dark, with a lushness that can only be found in vintage instruments.  The serial number denotes a Fullerton production date, but this is branded Los Angeles on the bell rim.  I suppose this could be considered a transitional instrument, as it has a modern, smaller cornet mouthpiece receiver.  The small receiver appeared during the Los Angeles era, but is usually associated with more modern examples.  The horn is so warm - different to older LA Supers I've tried, which tend to sound a bit more like trumpets.  I believe the exceptionally round tone is due to the smaller diameter receiver, and more generous lead pipe taper.  A true conical bore cornet.  In terms of condition, the instrument is in PERFECT playing order.  My technician removed the lead-pipe to correct a constriction at the water key, but the work is impeccable, and pretty much unnoticable.  The only apparent sign if his restoration is some lacquer loss at the solder points.  He does fantastic work.  Otherwise, there are no dings or dents, or signs of creases or problems.  Just beautiful, dark original lacquer, with some normal signs of age.  Valves are snug, with superb compression.  Supple, fast... completely modern in feel and function.  All slides are free, and the horn shows no corrosion or internal issues.  Bid with confidence, this is a true gem of an Olds cornet.  Comes with original case, original warranty cards and original lyre.
