BACHornDoctor Auction Vintage Elkhart Conn 88H - L Series, Made in 1968!! Awesome Horn!! Great player!! Fantastic feel! This is certainly one of the standard setting Large Bore trombones. It is superbly crafted and would make for an awesome gift for the Holidays!! Photos Below Description: Vintage Elkhart Conn 88H Trombone - A RARE GEM!! Up for auction is this unbelievable vintage 88H trombone, made by Conn in the legendary Elkhart, Indiana factory. The serial number is L53xxx, which puts the date of manufacture at 1968. Anyone who is familiar with Conn trombones knows that this model is one of the most desirable horns on the planet among professional musicians! It features a thin red brass bell with an unsoldered bell rim that measures 8.5 inches in diamaeter. The bore size is .547", and the leadipipe is the original Remington taper. There is also a rotary valve F attachment. The original case is included. This trombone is a professional level instrument, and would be well suited for a professional musician, advanced student, or an avid collector. For over 50 years, the Conn 88H trombone has been the standard trombone in most major symphony orchestras across the world. They are known and praised for their warm, rich sound, immediate response, and superior design and craftsmanship. The 88H has been endorsed and performed on regularly by countless professional musicians around the world, including trombonists Christian Lindberg, Emory Remington, Ian Bousfield, the "Bones Apart" Trombone Quartet, Ralph Sauer, Byron Peebles, Sonny Ausman, and MANY others! The Vintage Elkhart instruments in particular have sparked enormous praise from players and craftsmen alike. Many of today's top custom trombone manufacturers, including Steve Shires, Mick Rath, Zig Kanstul, and others have tipped their proverbial hats and have designed instruments specifically modeled after the Elkhart 88H specifications. Even the C.G. Conn company itself has recognized the popularity of this vintage sound and has begun offering current 88H setups with a thinwall rose brass bell loosely based on the Elkhart horns. This trombone is the original phenomenon that inspired it all! For its age, it is in fantastic condition, with very little loss of the original lacquer. The instrument is free of any major dents dings, or scratches that would inhibit its performance. The instrument has been ultrasonically and chemically cleaned here in-house. The rotary valve opperates smoothly and quietly and the valve has been aligned and fitted with new synthetic bumper material. Both tuning slides pull freely. The handslide has been fully serviced in our shop. After careful alignment, straightening, polishing, and re-assembly, the slide feels great and operates smoothly, quickly, and silently. The original chrome plating on the inner slide is in unbelievable condition. Typically, trombones of this vintage will show significant wear on the inner slide tube stockings, but as you can see from the photos, the stockings are in immaculate condition. 88H trombones such as these are becoming more and more rare and desirable as time goes on - especially examples that are in such fine condition as this! Take advantage of this once in a lifetime chance to own a wonderful Vintage instrument in solid playing condition. No doubt you will be the envy of every trombonist on the block!
