Description
WHEATSTONE ENGLISH CONCERTINA C/G 48 KEY, NO. 24671 I'm selling, reluctantly, my treasured Wheatstone English concertina. I bought it around 25 years ago when I had ambitions to improve my concertina playing. Unfortunately I've lacked the time to give it the commitment it needs, and so it's languished for most of that time in its case, which is a waste of a good concertina. This is an original Wheatstone instrument, number 24671, manufactured (experts tell me) in 1909 (which means it'll be a century old next year!). It has metal buttons, black wooden ends, steel reeds, and a 6-fold bellows in good condition. I seem to remember being told when I bought it that it is tuned to concert pitch, but can't be certain. I bought it from a man who could play like a pro and it sounded beautiful - with a better tone than any modern instrument. Unfortunately I've never been able to make the transition from a simple Anglo, and as it's unlikely I ever will now, it's better to sell it and try to learn an Anglo again. It's in good condition - basically the same as when I bought it 25 years ago. The guys at Hobgoblin had a look at it last month (Oct 2008) and said it was airtight and showed a nice, fast response. It should have - it's had very little use since I bought it. Comes with the same vintage leather case that I bought it with, which has deteriorated with time but which is basically the same condition as when bought (the leather top strap and lock straps have perished) but is restorable if you're worried about that. I think it's worth keeping because of its originality, and still functions as a protective case. I've made no attempt to restore it or polish it up or anything - it's absolutely as I bought it. You can see a few marks - but for me that's the point of an original instrument - the warts are part of the character (especially in the folk world!). The important things are the performance and the tone - and I think any musician would be very happy with it. Postage insured within the UK would be around £20. I estimate to the US it would be around £60. Please allow a 5-7 day clearing period after funds are received if you're using PayPal, to allow funds to clear. Item will ship immediately after funds are cleared. On 23-Nov-08 at 13:33:12 GMT, seller added the following information: Please note that in response to several questions, it is indeed a chromatic instrument, an English concertina and not an Anglo. My apologies.
